Jiana de la Tilisca


The couple dance category covers an impressive number of dances in Transylvania, Banat, Crişana, Oaş, Maramureş, and Moldova. One type is “invârtita” (turning couple dance) in straight rhythms (most of them in 2/4 meter). Jiana is a representative of this type. The dance belongs to the repertoire of shepherds living in the South Carpathian Mountains and could be found on both slopes of the Carpathians in South Transylvania and North Oltenia.
