Karčmaročka (Slovakia)

This Rusyn dance from the Prešov Region is very close to being a Jewish Bulgar in form, and its origin between the ethnic groups in a toss-up. Again, cross-fertilization of cultures did happen, especially since Jewish musicians (trained as part of military bands) often played for village and town events. Johann Prutynjak, born in the Hutzal region of Slovakia in the 1800s, learned these dances as a young man and passed them down through his family. This dance was presented at the 2025 Stockton Folkdance Camp by Andy Taylor.
