Description:

In the Sacramento area, we are an enthusiastic group who enjoy doing old favorite dances and learning new ones. Our group is the Sacramento Area Nordic Dancers (SAND). We were founded as the El Dorado Scandinavian Dancers and changed our name as we broadened our area. Often dancers come to the group from other recreational or social dance forms, such as International Folk Dance, Contra dance, or Scottish Country Dance. Any dance, music, or athletic background helps a person to pick up Nordic folk dance.

Classes

We teach Scandinavian Folk Dancing in the greater Sacramento area during the school year and sometimes during the summer. The class is handled as short courses of four to six sessions each for enrollment. We break for holidays during the class period. The class covers basic and some intermediate level dances, as well as good dance technique. Students may request advanced dances during the request period, but generally the classes emphasizes more fundamental skills. No previous experience is required, and singles & couples are welcome. Partners are rotated frequently to speed the learning process and give everyone a chance to participate.

Our classes are held at the Coloma Community Center auditorium, Sacramento. Beginner dances are normally taught 7:00 - 7:45 pm, with intermediate dances taught 7:45 - 9:00 pm. Check the City of Sacramento's website for the starting and ending dates of each session.

To register, call (916) 808-6060, Monday - Thursday. Purchase a six-class punch card for $36 or drop in for $7 per evening.
