Sacramento Area Nordic Dancers Performing Group

Our performing group is part of the Sacramento Area Nordic Dancers (SAND), and our membership draws from a wide geographical area, including Davis, Roseville, Sacramento, Placerville, and Pleasant Valley.  We are dedicated to the promotion of Scandinavian music and dance and specialize in dances from Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark.  Our members,  some of whom have been dancing together for nearly thirteen years, have extensive experience in Scandinavian folk dance and are well acquainted with the various styling characteristics, as well as with figures and steps.

Our group is frequently invited to perform at special events, such as dance festivals, parties, anniversaries and gatherings of Scandinavian organizations. We  perform in traditional costumes or close replicas of them.   We have performed at the Turlock Scandinavian Festival on several occasions, at Sacramento's Camellia Festival, as well as at a number of local Scandinavian ethnic functions.   Several members of SAND have traveled to Norway in recent years and performed with the Nordahl Grieg Leikarring at dance festivals in Oslo, Vogo, Stavanger, Trondheim and Boda.  A number of our dancers have also attended teaching workshops in Kaustinen, Finland and Trondheim, Norway.  We are available to perform at a variety of events, including private parties, festivals, and fairs.

Most of our dance resources are obtained from the distinguished Scandinavian teachers who travel from Scandinavia especially to teach at California workshops held at the Mendocino Woodlands Scandinavian Dance camp, the Stockton Folk Dance Camp,  the Sons of Norway Lodge in Alta, the Julian dance camp near San Diego, and in Petaluma.
