DESCRIPTION:The San Antonio Folk Dance Festival (SAFDF) celebrates dancing\, music\, costumes\, and friendship of cultures from all over the world. Come celebrate with us for a wonderful\, special weekend of international folk dancing and culture!  \nInstructors\nFor 2020 instructors include Ventsi Sotirov (Bulgarian)\, Lee Otterholt (International)\, Andy Taylor-Blenis (International\, Scottish\, and Mexican) and Franklin Houston (Balkan) \nDetails on Instructors \nConcert\nThe SAFDF concerts showcase the beautiful talent and energy of local performing folk dance groups\, plus special guests from further away. These performances\, together with the fabulous ambiance and professional stage of OLLU’s Thiry Auditorium\, combine for an unforgettable evening of music\, song\, and dance. In 2020\, we are proud to showcase the following groups: \n\nAlamotion Dance Troupe (San Antonio\, TX)\nFandango Dance Troupe (San Antonio\, TX)\nLevendia Greek Dance Troupe (Austin\, TX)\nBulgarka\, Bulgarians of Texas\nFaisan Folklorico (San Antonio\, TX)\nCsárdás Hungarian Dancers (Austin\, TX)\nKarilagan Philippine Cultural Group (San Antonio\, TX)\nSamba Vida Drum & Dance Company (San Antonio\, TX)\n\nDance Parties\nFestival evenings culminate in parties featuring folk dance favorites that keep everyone\, from complete beginners to seasoned veterans\, dancing for hours. Currently based in Pennsylvania\, Željko teaches at workshops\, camps and festivals throughout the United States\, Canada\, Europe and Asia. \nCroatian crestŽeljko was inspired at the age of 7 to begin dancing after attending a theater performance of Croatia’s state ensemble “LADO” with his father. The costumes and singing had an immediate effect on him from the moment the curtain opened and he knew he wanted to join the group. At the age of 18 that dream became a reality when he became a member of the prestigious ensemble LADO. He now shares his knowledge of Croatian music\, dancing\, costumes and traditions with people of all ages through teaching. Read more…
