OSCAR FAORO
Honored March 15, 2009
The
Sacramento Folk Dance and Arts Council is proud and happy to acknowledge
the lifelong contributions and dedication to Folk Dance and Arts by Oscar
Faoro. He was Federation President 1984 - 86 and Folk Dance Council
President 1975 - 76, and held all kinds of local offices. He was also very
important at Stockton Folk Dance camp, along with Leona, of course. She
was always at his side, and they were a mighty and loveable folk dance
team. Leona served as Council President 1978 - 80 and Federation President
1988 - 90.
He has been a member of several clubs, Triple S, Pairs & Spares,
Kaleidoscope, Family Circle, Tuesday Dancers, the Left Footers , and the
Thursday group known for a while as The Nomads. He used to call squares.
For one square, which represents stomping grapes, he always wore purple
socks, dyed for him by Leona for such occasions.
He is the original “go-to guy” because it doesn’t matter what you need,
you know that Oscar can and will help you out. A good example of that, was
when Stockton Folk Dance Camp had a huge crisis one year when they
couldn’t get the facilities they needed from the University of Pacific.
All the rooms that had wood floors were being used by the 49’ers! Oscar
stepped up to the plate, and came up with a concept for portable floors
which could be used in any room. He designed them and built them, and
oversaw their installation. They have been used for many years now, and
are still being appreciated.
Oscar is legendary for his warm hugs, his warm heart, and his great
smile! |
